Science Parks are a modern phenomenon all over the world, with new parks in Taiwan and France being some 4,000 hectares in extent. The mission is to develop new concepts to pre-production prototype stage, with production carried out elsewhere. A science park has to be within easy reach of its intellectual input (10 kms the usual radius) and depends on world first communication methods to maintain international networks of scientists and academics.
DSP does not compete with institutions such as Universities and CSIRO for R&D funds, but rather collaborates with these R&D centres, bringing projects, in the form of problems to solve, as DSP strives to commercialise existing research.
